Engineering Excellence

A life of your own.

General Robotics is pursuing embodied AI: intelligent machines that can understand the physical world and perform useful work within it. Our ambition spans many applications, with a special place for the home.

Our purpose

We believe progress should give people more freedom to pursue what matters to them: to learn, create, care for one another, explore, and build lives of their own choosing.

Our motto

Engineering Excellence

Our motto expresses the standard we are working toward: capable machines, thoughtful design, and craftsmanship worthy of the people who will live and work with them.

  1. Capable machines

Robots that understand the physical world and do useful work within it.

  2. Thoughtful design

Engineering that belongs comfortably in the rooms where people live.

  3. Craftsmanship

Made to a standard worthy of the people who will live and work with them.

Beauty and engineering

Parts of the same pursuit.

Inspired by Pittsburgh’s tradition of making, the artistry of the great international expositions, and the optimism of early technology, we see beauty and engineering as parts of the same pursuit. We want to build a future that cherishes what people already love while opening new possibilities.

Where we are today

At the beginning, and building.

We are an early-stage company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Our first machine, Wheeler, is a wheeled mobile robot with an arm on a vertical lift. It is in engineering development: designed in CAD and driven in simulation.

Wheeler is a heavily modified version of the original ReallyUsefulRobot, created by James Bruton’s XRobots.

Alongside it we are writing the software that operates our robots, and doing the research in perception and manipulation that a capable home robot needs.

The paintings on this page are concept artwork. They express the future we aspire to build, not products or specifications. The drawings show our current development model, not a finished design.
